Puerto Rico has joined the National Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program (NVSEP), a system designed to simplify how individuals block access to gambling across multiple jurisdictions.
The program is set to launch in June and will allow users in Puerto Rico to voluntarily enroll in a centralized exclusion list that restricts access to casinos, sports betting, and other regulated gaming platforms.
The move supports efforts by the Comisión de Juegos del Gobierno de Puerto Rico to modernize gambling oversight and strengthen responsible gaming protections.
“Puerto Rico has built one of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving gaming markets in the region, backed by strong leadership and a vibrant culture that makes it a truly special place,” said Jonathan Aiwazian, CEO of idPair.
“We’re honored to support the Comisión de Juegos in expanding access to responsible gaming protections, and we look forward to simplifying self-exclusion for individuals while streamlining processes for operators, many of whom already process exclusion data via the idPair platform deployed across other jurisdictions.”
Puerto Rico Gaming Commission Executive Director Juan Carlos Santaella Marchán welcomed the collaboration, stating that the initiative strengthens public policy goals around responsible gaming.
“Our goal has always been to provide accessible tools and resources for anyone seeking support with gambling-related issues,” he said. “This initiative aligns with the work we have carried out since I assumed office, as well as with our ongoing Responsible Gaming educational campaign.”
NVSEP is described as a system that simplifies what has historically been a fragmented process. Instead of requiring individuals to enroll separately in multiple exclusion systems, NVSEP provides a centralized registration platform. Once enrolled, participant data is distributed securely to participating operators through the idPair system to help enforce exclusion requests and support regulatory compliance.
The system aims to streamline both user experience and operator reporting obligations while preserving individual choice and privacy protections.
