Real Madrid lost more ground at the top of LaLiga as a stunning first-half strike from Martín Satriano earned Getafe a shock 1-0 win at the Bernabeu.

After soaking up plenty of pressure, Satriano shocked the home faithful just before the break when he crashed a volley into the top corner.

Real Madrid, who had slipped to a last-gasp defeat at Osasuna last weekend, upped the tempo for the second half, but could not find a breakthrough — and had substitute Franco Mastantuono sent off in stoppage time for abusive language towards the referee.

Los Blancos — again without Kylian Mbappé, who faces a spell on the sidelines with a left knee sprain — made a bright start as Vinícius Júnior fired an early chance wide.

Getafe, having won two of their last three league games, responded when defender Diego Rico fired in a cushioned volley, which Trent Alexander-Arnold threw himself at to make a crucial block.

Vinicius then burst clear in the 13th minute after a mistake by Sebastián Boselli on the halfway line, but his low shot from just inside the box was touched wide by the boot of Getafe goalkeeper David Soria.

Getafe had Soria to thank again in the 24th minute when he pulled off a fine reaction save to palm away a rising drive from Arda Güler.

The visitors took a shock lead in the 39th minute.

A clearance on the edge of the area was headed back out to the right by Mauro Arambarri and as the ball dropped, Satriano crashed a first-time effort past Thibaut Courtois and into the top corner.

Madrid, aiming to close a four-point gap on leaders Barcelona, looked to get back on level terms just before half-time, but Aurelien Tchouameni’s flicked header from a cross by Vinicius was too close to Soria.

There was more frustration for the home support during the early stages of the second half as Thiago Pitarch sent a 20-yard effort straight at the Getafe keeper.

Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa made a triple change in the 55th minute, sending on Rodrygo, Dean Huijsen and Dani Carvajal.

Getafe continued to be pushed back into a deep defensive line, but Madrid could not find a way through as the visitors dug in.

With 15 minutes left, Antonio Rüdiger flashed a header across goal and Huijsen was unable to nod the ball in at the far post as it dropped just wide.

Rodrygo then sent his header from the right back through the six-yard box, but again no one in white could get a telling touch.

Mastantuono forced another good save from Soria after being played into the right side of the penalty area.

Real Madrid’s miserable night was compounded in stoppage time when Mastantuono was shown a straight red card after remonstrating with the referee, who then also sent off Getafe substitute Adrián Liso for a needless second caution when he kicked the ball away.
