Global iGaming software provider SOFTSWISS has hosted a LinkedIn Live panel discussion focused on the financial and strategic implications for casino operators who choose not to offer a sportsbook.
The session examined whether the perceived barriers to sportsbook adoption are grounded in operational reality or are largely misconceptions that limit potential revenue growth.
The panel, titled “Is Your Casino Missing Revenue? The Cost of Not Having a Sportsbook,” brought together experts from esports betting, iGaming marketing, data analytics, and technology providers to assess sportsbook adoption barriers and operational realities.
The conversation covered sportsbook operations, highlighting that trading, risk management, and live betting require a different skill set compared to casino products. However, it was noted that managed service models can reduce operational complexity by allowing operators to outsource technical and trading functions while still maintaining control over the overall product offering.
Audience strategy was another key focus, with panelists pointing out that there is often significant overlap between casino players and sports bettors, particularly during major sporting events. Instead of building entirely new audiences, operators were encouraged to identify existing player interest in sports and activate that engagement more effectively.
Player monetisation was also discussed, with experts addressing the perception that sportsbook users may deliver lower lifetime value compared to casino players. The panel suggested that when integrated properly, sportsbooks can complement casino offerings and strengthen overall retention strategies, ultimately enhancing long-term customer value.
Additionally, financial considerations were reviewed, particularly the concern around margin volatility in sportsbook operations. While acknowledging that fluctuations are inherent to betting markets, the panel emphasised that modern risk management tools and structured pricing strategies can help operators maintain stable and predictable unit economics.
Moreover, the discussion addressed technical integration challenges, noting that sportsbook implementation was once considered complex and resource-intensive. However, advancements in API-first architecture and turnkey solutions have significantly simplified the process, making integration more predictable and less time-consuming for operators.
