Goalkeeper Antonín Kinsky was hauled off after just 17 minutes as Tottenham slumped to 3-0 down in their Champions League last 16 first leg at Atlético Madrid on Tuesday.

Marcos Llorente put the home side ahead after just six minutes at the Metropolitano, following a mistake by Kinsky to give the ball away, before Antoine Griezmann made it 2-0.

When Julián Álvarez put Atlético 3-0 up — after another Kinsky error — coach Igor Tudor had seen enough, and replaced the keeper with Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero walked over to Tudor before Atletico could kick off again and Kinsky’s number was held up for the fourth official moments later with usual first-choice Vicario introduced.

Romero and Kevin Danso hugged Kinsky as he left the pitch and the Czech goalkeeper walked straight down the tunnel.

Spurs substitutes João Palhinha, Conor Gallagher and Dominic Solanke raced after Kinsky along with staff member Dean Brill following a chastening night in Madrid for the young goalkeeper in only his 13th appearance for the Premier League club.

It was the joint earliest goalkeeper substitution in Champions League knockout stage matches ever, tied with Lyon’s Gregory Coupet — who was taken off vs. Real Sociedad after 17 minutes in the 2003-04 round of 16.

The switch didn’t stop the goals coming, as Robin Le Normand made it 4-0 on 22 minutes, making it the second-quickest time for a team to score four in a UCL match. Only their rivals Real Madrid (vs. Dinamo Zagreb in 2011) have managed it faster.

Pedro Porro pulled a goal back for the visitors four minutes later.

Kinsky was making his first Champions League start for Spurs since the qualifying round, and his first in any competition since October.

Tudor — appointed last month — is already under pressure, with the team having lost their past five matches going into the game in Madrid.
