NBA Summer League action continues tonight from Las Vegas, with the San Antonio Spurs facing the Milwaukee Bucks. The Spurs have split their first two games in the Desert so far, while Milwaukee dropped its only contest. Online sportsbooks are expecting the Bucks to rebound, pegging them as 4.5 point favorites. At first glance that line might seem high, but a closer look into the San Antonio roster reveals a starting lineup void of serious talent.

Milwaukee actually opened up as a -2.5-point favorite, but that line has since jumped to -4.5. A big reason for the move was the removal of Carter Bryant from the San Antonio lineup, who was the only Spurs player to show a pulse so far in Summer League.

At the time of writing, the Bucks are listed as a -170 moneyline favorite, with San Antonio coming back as a +142 underdog. Total-wise, the over/under sits at 176.5 with the juice shaded towards the over, after opening up 3 points higher.

If this was a regular season game, San Antonio, the runner-up in the NBA championship odds, would be favored by double-digits. However, Summer League rosters rarely feature proven talent, and are instead made up of rookies and journeymen looking to make a good impression. That’s definitely the case tonight for the Spurs, especially without Bryant.

A rookie last season, Bryant earned playing time throughout San Antonio’s playoff run and was excellent in the Spurs victory last night over the Knicks. He splashed 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, outscoring everyone of his teammates not named Ja’Kobi Gillespie by more than 10 points. After the performance, San Antonio indicated they were shutting down Bryant for the rest of the Summer, which explains his absence tonight.

Aside from Bryant, the Spurs did bring two 2026 first round picks to Vegas, but neither Jayden Quaintance or Tarris Reed Jr. is expected to play tonight. The lack of talent opens up the door for Milwaukee to pounce, who have a ton of offensive talent on their Summer League roster. That list is headlined by the 10th overall pick and NBA Rookie of the Year odds contender Brayden Burries, who dropped a team-high 18 points in his Summer League debut versus Miami.

In addition to Burries, the Bucks will also deploy the 13th pick Nate Ament, along with Pete Nance and Kasparas Jakucionis, who earned legit NBA minutes down the stretch last season. That gives Milwaukee a serious leg up in terms of talent, and given San Antonio’s anemic Summer League offense so far (68 points per game), it’s a prudent move to follow up the line move and back the Bucks.

The opening line was inflated due to Milwaukee’s first game of the tournament where they coughed up 119 points. On paper that looks rough, but they faced a Heat team that couldn’t miss from the field, and also buried nearly 90% of their freebies.

The Spurs don’t boast nearly the same type of offensive ceiling, and while the Bucks are clearly the more talented roster, San Antonio is still a very well coached team in their own end, as evident by the fact they held New York to only 40 points last night. Each of the Spurs first two Summer League games fell well short of this number, and tonight’s affair should as well.
