The San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks are headed to the 2026 NBA Finals, and this is about as unlikely a pairing as you’ll get. San Antonio just knocked off the defending-champion Thunder in a Game 7 on the road, capping a stunning run through the West. New York, meanwhile, has been resting since May 25 after breezing through the Eastern Conference.

The betting market has seen enough to side with the Spurs. San Antonio is the youngest team left standing, yet the money keeps pouring in on them.

Let’s get into the opening Spurs vs Knicks odds, the head-to-head history, and the full Finals schedule.

Spurs vs Knicks Odds for the 2026 NBA Finals

On Kalshi, San Antonio has opened as the favorite at 63¢, which works out to around -170 in traditional American odds and a 62% implied chance to win the title. New York sits at 37¢, the equivalent of roughly +170 and a 37% implied probability. The Spurs are the biggest mover on the board, up 47 cents as bettors keep piling on after the Game 7 win.

The series spread and game over/under totals haven’t been posted yet. Expect those numbers to firm up now that the matchup is locked in.

New York earned its spot the easy way. The Knicks are 12-2 straight-up in the postseason and a ridiculous 11-3 against the spread with a +19.4 point differential. They beat the Hawks in six, then swept both the 76ers and Cavaliers, and they’ve won 11 in a row. More than a week of rest is a real edge, even if the rust question is fair.

San Antonio took the hard road. The Spurs stole Game 1 of the conference final in double overtime as +300 underdogs, went a perfect 3-0 at home, and closed it out in Oklahoma City. Wembanyama was the best player in that series, posting 28.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game. Beating the defending champs in a Game 7 on their floor is the kind of thing that turns a market in a hurry.

Neither of these teams was the popular pick in the preseason NBA championship odds. Oklahoma City was the title favorite all year at +208, and the Spurs just sent them home. New York opened the season at +900 before drifting all the way out to +3700 during the regular season. So much for that.

Spurs vs Knicks Recent Results

These two split their regular-season series 1-1 this year, but the scoreboard told a one-sided story. New York averaged 123.0 points across the two games to San Antonio’s 111.5, and the Knicks also handled the In-Season Tournament meeting 124-113. The book on the Spurs has been to make them shoot from the outside, and New York exploited it.

Zoom out, though, and the Spurs own this rivalry. San Antonio leads the all-time regular-season series 60-47 dating back to the 1970s. More importantly, the only time these franchises have met in the playoffs was the 1999 NBA Finals, which the Spurs won 4-1 behind Finals MVP Tim Duncan and his 27.4 points and 14.0 rebounds per game. That Knicks squad remains the only 8-seed to ever reach the Finals.

A San Antonio-New York title series will be the first in 27 years, and the storyline almost writes itself. Duncan’s first ring came against the Knicks. Now Wembanyama is chasing his first against the same franchise. That’s a heck of a torch to pass.
