Week 6 in the CFL continues tonight at 7pm ET with a marquee matchup between the East leading Montreal Alouettes (3-1, 2-0 home) and the visiting Calgary Stampeders (2-2, 1-0 away). Both teams are fresh off victories last time out, with the Als coming in rested having sat out Week 5 with a bye.

Online sportsbooks are expecting Montreal to defend home field, pegging them as 3.5-point favorites in a game with a 62.5-point total. Stampeders vs Alouettes Picks

Tonight’s 62.5-point total is surprisingly low for a few reasons. For starters, both offenses have been on fire to start the season. Calgary enters play leading the league in scoring, averaging 41 points per game. They’re fresh off a 58-point outburst in a victory over the Argos, in a game where Vernon Adams Jr. put up historic numbers – more on that later.

As for the Als, the reigning Grey Cup odds favorites have been nearly as explosive. They’re averaging 33.5 points per contest, while QB Davis Alexander boasts the second shortest odds to win Most Outstanding Player over at BetMGM Alberta. Alexander is third in the CFL in passing yards, and hasn’t thrown an interception in his last 274 attempts, which is the second longest streak in league history.

The Alexander to Tyson Philpot connection has been thriving all season, and should face little resistance from a Calgary defense yielding 35 points per game. Speaking of Philpot, his twin brother Jalen is one of the Stamps premier receivers, leading the team in targets, catches and touchdowns. He’s developed impressive chemistry with Adams Jr, and is fresh off a 2-TD performance.

Back to Adams Jr, who couldn’t be contained last time out. He completed 20-of-25 passes for 405 yards and 6 touchdowns, against zero interceptions. That earned him a perfect passer rating for the evening, and tied him with Calgary legends Doug Flutie, Jeff Garcia and Dave Dickenson for the team’s single game TD record.

On paper, a date with the Montreal defense should be imposing, but the Als have not lived up to their preseason hype on that side of the ball yet. Montreal is averaging 31 points against per contest so far, after finishing the 2025 season among the league leaders in that category.

Moving over to the player props market, where I’m running to bet Tyson Philpot over 91.5 receiving yards. The 25-year-old is off to a ridiculous start to 2026, leading the league in catches and receiving yards. He’s racked up 587 yards so far, putting him on pace for 2,642 yards over an 18-game campaign. For context, that’s over 600 yards more than the current record, and he’s also vying to become just the fourth 2,000-yard receiver in league history.

What separates Philpot from other great receivers is his ability to win on every level. He has the speed to run by corners, and the slick route running to break their ankles. He doesn’t drop balls and he excels in contested catch situations. Philpot hauled in 12 of 13 targets last time out, including two contested catches. He’s cleared 120 yards in three straight games, and given the favorable matchup, I don’t mind betting the ladders for his receiving props in addition to over 91.5 yards.
