Online casino gaming in the United States continues to inch closer to a major milestone number.
In August, the seven online casino states collected $910.4 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR). That total is up $216.6 million from August of 2024, while also up 3.7% from July’s $877.6 million.
The seven states collectively are moving closer toward $1 billion in monthly revenue. While there’s still a ways to go, the way things are progressing, it should come sooner rather than later.
All Seven US Online Casino States Up Over 25%
August was an impressive showing for online casinos in the US. Compared to a year prior, all seven states saw an increasing in revenue by over 25%.
Four of the seven states set new monthly revenue records. They were Michigan, New Jersey, West Virginia, and Delaware.
Here’s a look at each state’s gross gaming revenue from August. It should be noted that some states individually report their adjusted gross revenue (AGR), which removes promotional spend from their wins. This table reflects the total prior to the promo spending being taken out.
Top Three States Account for 88% of Revenue
The big three online casino states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey combined for $803.2 million in revenue in August on their own. That accounted for 88% of the entire country.
When it comes to records, Michigan online casinos put up a new record in August, topping the previous record of $260.5 million, which was set in March. It marked the third time in 2025 that Michigan set a monthly revenue record.
For New Jersey online casinos, it marked the second consecutive month that it set a new record. In July, NJ put up a new high of $247.3 million.
Pennsylvania online casinos brought in its third-highest monthly revenue total in August. It was just $225,703 shy of topping the second-highest total, which was set in May. The current record still stands at $294.8 million, which Pennsylvania hit in March of this year.
Tax revenue generated for the respective states and local entities between these three hit $225.2 million in August. That is up nearly $6 million when compared to July.
FanDuel Hits New Milestone in Michigan
August was a big month for FanDuel Casino.
It cemented itself as the leader when it comes to online casino revenue, as it became the first operator in Michigan to hit $70 million in monthly GGR.
FanDuel has been going toe-to-toe with BetMGM Casino in Michigan throughout the last year, but August’s record put it ahead of its rival by nearly $6 million for the year to this point. BetMGM had won the first 38 months of monthly revenue for Michigan iGaming, but FanDuel took that title away in March of 2024 and the two have been trading the lead since. FanDuel has managed to win the last three months to take over the 2025 lead.
In New Jersey, FanDuel took home the top spot with $57.1 million in revenue. That was over $10 million ahead of DraftKings Casino, and nearly $25 million ahead of BetMGM.
