Steven Matt Morrow, aka the world-famous “Vegas Matt,” the biggest Las Vegas gambling livestreamer, ran deep on Thursday in the Celebrity Poker Tour (CPT) Invitational XII at PokerGO Studio.
Only former Chicago Bears defensive back Eddie Jackson finished higher in the $50,000 freeroll that featured numerous athletes and content creators. Vegas Matt took second place for $8,000, but that wasn’t all he received.
The slots YouTuber and FanDuel Casino ambassador told PokerNews before the poker tournament began that he had a side bet on the line, and he answered some questions about has favorite Las Vegas casinos and the comps he receives for gambling at the highest stakes.
Vegas Matt Speaks
Vegas Matt has become a staple in the slots YouTube space, accumulating over 1.5 million subscribers. He said his next goal is to reach 2 million YouTube subscribers, which will likely be achieved within the year.
“We just try to put out good content every day,” Vegas Matt said. “My son’s amazing and so consistent. Every day at 11:45 a.m., we put out a long-form, and then every afternoon we put out a short-form video.”
The high-stakes gambler’s content team includes his son E.J., John “W2Jesus” Pollak, and longtime poker player and gambler Robert “WBG” Goldfarb, who has 23 World Series of Poker (WSOP) cashes and a WSOPC ring.
Vegas Matt enjoys poker but said he mostly only plays in the CPT events. Thus far, he’s had some success in the Las Vegas-based celebrity event, having booked a win and, on Thursday, a runner-up finish.
“The only time I’ve played poker in the last three years is at the three or four CPT events. I’m strictly a CPT player. I actually don’t have time, I don’t play poker. I don’t hve the patience. I used to play a lot, but I don’t really play anymore.”
Vegas Matt didn’t quite win the CPT Invitational this time around. But he did achieve his goal of outlasting Bryce Hall, a content creator and avid poker player who has appeared on livestreams such as Hustler Casino Live. Hall lost a $1,000 last-longer bet to Vegas Matt for the second straight time.
The Celebrity Poker Tour in Las Vegas is a freeroll event hosted by Blake Wynn, nephew of Wynn Resorts founder and Las Vegas casino mogul Steve Wynn. CPT events take place every couple of months and bring in numerous athletes, social media influencers, and other celebrities.
Where Does Vegas Matt Love to Gamble?
Vegas Matt and his crew gamble on a daily basis in Las Vegas, and sometimes in other destinations such as Reno. He puts thousands of dollars on the line seven days a week to create what many consider to be the best content in the space. But what are his favorite Las Vegas casinos?
“I have two favorites,” he said. “In downtown, I love the El Cortez. Since 1941, it’s a classic spot. It’s just got great vibes, really fun, great machine selection. They always get the new machines right away.”
El Cortez is one of a growing list of Las Vegas casinos that not only allow gamblers to livestream their play, but encourage it. As for Matt’s second favorite casino in Las Vegas, it’s a newer one on the Strip.
“I’m a Fountainebleau guy. It’s the newest, the nicest, they got the best restaurants, they got good machines, they have good video poker. So, if I have to pick two, Fountainebleau and El Cortez,” Vegas Matt opined.
Outside of Las Vegas, the content creator has a favorite spot in Reno, a smaller Nevada town about 450 miles north of Sin City.
“Peppermill at Reno is one of our favorite places. I think that is pound-for-pound one of the best casinos for slot players in the country. They’ve got a lot going for them, and it’s a great property,” Vegas Matt said.
Vegas Matt, given his play, earns enough casino comps to “never pay for a bite of food” and could stay free at multiple properties for a year. But he doesn’t take advantage of the free rooms often because his wife “just likes staying at home.”
The Vegas Matt brand is booming and will only continue to grow. Don’t expect the gambler to slow down on his daily content production. Gambling’s his favorite hobby, and he said he’d only consider giving up the gig “when I get sick of gambling.”
