Jared Griener

New video shows poker pro Jared Griener moments after he says he was hog-tied and robbed for his World Series of Poker winnings.

In a social media post earlier this week, Griener said he was ambushed by two men as he entered his Las Vegas Airbnb. He had his “entire roll” on him after having cashed out his summer winnings at the WSOP, which included $57,500 from his 218th-place finish in the $10,000 Main Event.

“When I walked In the front door two men were there waiting, immediately tackled me to the ground and tied me up and took my backpack with my entire roll in it,” the Southern California poker pro wrote on X on July 13.

Violent Ambush Over Poker Winnings

In a more detailed account of the robbery, Griener wrote that he had arrived home at his Airbnb around 8 p.m. on July 12 after busting the WSOP $1,500 Closer. Griener entered the house, the front door of which was locked, and “two men came around the corner and immediately jumped on me and tackled me to the ground.”

Griener said the men “tied my arms behind my back and one of them said, ‘Don’t move or we will f***ing kill you.'”

They then began asking him where his backpack was “and threatened to kill me if I didn’t tell them.” He told them it was in his car and “begged them to take whatever they wanted and leave and to please let me live.”

The men then allegedly used duct tape to hog-tie Griener with his wrists behind his back, placing dishes on his back to ensure he stayed put while they searched the house.

“After some time I realized they had left the house and began to wriggle myself of of the tape,” Griener said.

“Please Help Me”

Video obtained by KSNV News 3 Las Vegas shows Griener, bare-foot and with his hand wrapped in duct tape, pleading for help at a neighbor’s door moments after the alleged robbery.

“Please help me. Somebody just broke into the house across the street and f***ing robbed me. They took my phone. They took everything I have. They tied me up, I just got out. Can you call 9/11? If you’re there? Please, please help me.”

The incident has received extensive national media coverage, including from the Los Angeles Times, TMZ and the New York Post.

Griener, who has $3.3 million in live earnings and sits second on Utah’s all-time money list, is a prominent tournament and cash game grinder in the Los Angeles area. He has played on high-stakes live streams including Hustler Casino Live, Live at the Bike, and Bally Live.

PokerNews interviewed Griener in 2023 about his career as a live grinder in the Los Angeles area.

Poker players, who typically deal in cash and often have large influxes of money, are frequent targets for robberies, most notably outside of Texas card rooms. In 2024, poker player Mo Nuwwarah had his car broken into in the Las Vegas Chinatown district.
