The No. 16 West Virginia Mountaineers (46-15) and No. 5 North Carolina Tar Heels (51-12-1) battle with a spot in the College World Series semifinals on the line. Both teams won their first-round contests to set up this heavyweight clash between national seeds. Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska will host this clash at 7:00 PM ET on Sunday, June 14. ESPN will carry the broadcast.

West Virginia vs North Carolina Expert Picks
North Carolina is a co-favorite in College World Series odds for good reason. UNC is red-hot, losing just twice since ACC tournament play began. North Carolina is the second-highest-ranked side left in the tournament behind No. 3 Georgia.
Offensively, the duo of Cooper Nicholson and Owen Hull drive the Tar Hells. Nicholson leads the Heels with 16 home runs while Hull has been a tremendous all-around threat. While he only has eight home runs, he has a robust .387/.502/.596 slash line with a ridiculous 82 RBI.
Runs can come in bunches in Omaha, but I am leaning toward the under given that West Virginia vs North Carolina will miss the midday heat that usually provides some extra offense. Given that the winner is guaranteed a spot in the semifinals, I feel both teams will prioritize pitching and scratching a couple of runs across the olate rather than an all-out power approach.
West Virginia vs North Carolina Odds
North Carolina is trading at 60¢ to win on Sunday night (equal to -150 odds) at Kalshi. On the other side, West Virginia is trading at 42¢ (+138) to upset UNC.
Over 9.5 runs is slightly favored at 52¢ (-108) with the under priced at 49¢ (+104).

West Virginia vs North Carolina Statistical Profiles
At the plate, the clubs have different profiles. West Virginia is more of a contact-oriented team, hitting over .300 as a club. The Mountaineers average just under one home run per game, and they already have a signature tournament moment with a straight steal of home in their opening win over Troy.
North Carolina has a well-rounded offensive profile, but the Heels do provide more in the power department. Their ISO as a team is 30 points higher, and they clubbed 26 home runs – about one extra home run every other game.
On the mound, the teams have comparable ERAs, a tick below 4.00. West Virginia is slightly less walk prone while striking out as equivalent number of hitters.
UNC vs WVU: Road to Omaha
West Virginia Mountaineers
West Virginia was the final national seed, hosting a Morgantown Regional. After a first-round wi over Binghamton, West Virginia fell to Kentucky. However, the Mountaineers showed great resolve, knocking out Wake Forest before beating Kentucky twice, including an extra-innings win in “Game 7” to advance to the Super Regional (also in Morgantown).
The Morgantown Super Regional was not as competitive as West Virginia clobbered Cal Poly 12-2 and 17-1 to book its ticket to Omaha.
West Virginia defeated Troy 7-5 to advance to play North Carolina.
North Carolina Tar Heels
A fellow national seed, North Carolina hosted Tennessee, East Carolina, and VCU in the Chapel Hill Regional. UNC dispatched VCU before winning a cross-state matchup over East Carolina twice (after ECU advanced out of the loser’s side of the bracket). In the Super Regional, North Carolina overcame a Game 1 loss to USC to win in three games, winning on a walk-off to head to Omaha.
North Carolina defeated Ole Miss 6-2 to advance to play West Virginia.
College World Series History
West Virginia
West Virginia has been a recent regional power, winning their region in both 2024 and 2025, but the Mountaineers finally advanced to Omaha this season. This is West Virginia’s 17th NCAA tournament appearance, an occurrence in six of the last nine seasons.
North Carolina
North Carolina is an Omaha regular, but the Tar Heels have never won it all. 2026 is the 13th time the Tar Heels have advanced to Omaha – the second in three seasons. However, UNC’s best run is a runner-up finish, which the team accomplished in 2006 and 2007. Cruelly, Oregon State knocked them out both seasons, winning their first two national championships.
