We are down to six at the College World Series and that number will shrink by two more following Tuesday’s doubleheader. First up, Troy looks to stave off elimination once again, as they’ll face a West Virginia team that beat them in the opening game of the tournament.

Prediction markets are expecting a repeat performance, listing the Mountaineers as heavy favorites ahead of this matchup.

First pitch for this elimination game is scheduled for 2:00 pm ET from Charles Schwab Field, in Omaha, Nebraska, with ESPN providing the broadcast coverage.

Below, you’ll find my West Virginia vs Troy picks and predictions, along with the latest odds for this College World Series contest.

As of Tuesday morning, West Virginia is trading at 65-cents to beat Troy for a second time, which is the equivalent of a -186 moneyline favorite in traditional sports betting terms. The Trojans come back as a 38-cent underdog (+163), while the total is trading at 73 cents to the over (-213).

West Virginia vs Troy Picks and Predictions

  • West Virginia Moneyline (65¢ at Kalshi)
  • West Virginia Over 7.5 Runs (+110 at bet365)

The Trojans are only here thanks to another heroic victory. Troy rallied to score seven unanswered runs in their first elimination test against Ole Miss, erasing a four-run deficit en route to their 18th come-from-behind victory of the season.

There’s no questioning the Trojans offense at this point, as they are one of the best lineups remaining in the tournament. Troy has scored at least five runs in 15 straight games, and catcher Jimmy Janicki is one of the premier hitters in Omaha this week.

The problem isn’t putting up runs, it’s keeping the opposition from crossing the plate.

The Trojans yielded another eight runs in their victory yesterday, and are running out of fresh arms to put on the mound. They’ve yet to name a starter for today as of the time of writing, but no matter who toes the rubber, they’re going to have their hands full with the West Virginia lineup.

The Mountaineers were held to only two runs in their matchup against North Carolina last time out, but the Tar Heels staff is arguably the best remaining in the College World Series. West Virginia had been on an absolute tear leading up to their showdown with UNC, scoring 82 runs in their previous eight games.

The Mountaineers can’t match the Trojans long ball prowess, but they can still outproduce them. West Virginia is always on base, boasting one of the nation’s top batting averages and strikeout-to-walk ratios. As a team they boast an .871 OPS and .463 slugging percentage, averaging nearly two stolen bases per game. They make the opposing pitcher grind through every at-bat, and have excelled in clutch hitting situations all season long.

The biggest separator in this matchup however, is the discrepancy between pitching staffs. West Virginia is loaded in both the starting rotation and the bullpen, limiting opposing batters to a .231 batting average and just two-extra base hits per game. Like Troy, they’ve yet to announce a starter for today’s do-or-die showdown, but there’s no denying their arms will be more fresh. The Mountaineers used only two pitchers in their previous contest, meaning they are well equipped to play the matchup games versus Troy’s big bats, should their starter falter early.

West Virginia was my favorite selection in the College World Series odds before the tournament started, and I’m not wavering now. They’ve already beaten Troy once, and I’m betting they put up 8+ runs today in another victory over the Trojans.
