Florida spent this past spring watching the playoffs from the couch. One Father’s Day trade later, the Panthers look like a contender again.
The Cats pulled off the move of the offseason on Sunday, shipping a pile of picks to Ottawa for captain Brady Tkachuk. It puts the Tkachuk brothers on the same NHL roster for the first time and hands Florida a forward group no coach wants to game-plan against.
Sportsbooks didn’t waste any time adjusting their futures. Florida climbed the board in the latest 2027 Stanley Cup odds, while Ottawa dropped after dealing its best player. Here’s the trade breakdown and how it impacted both teams’ Cup odds.
Brady Tkachuk Trade Details
Florida gets Brady. Ottawa gets a serious draft haul.
The Senators landed the No. 9 pick in Friday’s draft, the No. 25 pick, a top-10-protected 2029 first-round pick, and a 2027 second-round pick. Three first-rounders is a steep tab to swallow, but Panthers GM Bill Zito clearly believes the window is wide open right now.
Brady Tkachuk, 26, put up 22 goals and 37 assists for 59 points in 60 games this past season, all while carrying an $8.2 million cap hit through 2028. He held a no-movement clause and chose Florida himself, even with Vegas, Carolina, and Minnesota all in the mix.
Panthers Climb the 2027 Stanley Cup Odds
Florida opened at +1200 and has since shortened to +800 at FanDuel, jumping from sixth to third. In real terms, that’s a leap from a 7.7% implied chance to roughly 11.1%

Florida’s lost season wasn’t about talent; it was about health. Aleksander Barkov tore his ACL and MCL on the first day of camp and sat out all 82 games, while Matthew Tkachuk missed the first 47. Barkov is reportedly ahead of schedule and ready for training camp.
Drop Brady into a group that already has Barkov, Matthew, Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett, and Brad Marchand, and the top six stacks up with anyone in the Eastern Conference odds. The brothers also have built-in chemistry from playing together for Team USA.
The lone question mark is in net. Sergei Bobrovsky is a free agent on July 1, coming off the worst save percentage of his career (.873), and the Panthers have only about $7 million to solve their goaltending. If they land a legit number one starter, this number could keep falling.
Sens Cup Odds After Dealing Their Captain
Ottawa went the other way, drifting from +1600 to +2200, down to about a 4.3% implied chance. Trading away your franchise captain and top forward will do that to your odds.
For Ottawa, this trade is all about the future. The Senators walk into Friday’s draft with three first-round picks (9th, 25th, and 32nd) and roughly $25 million in freed-up cap space. Steve Staios can build through the draft or chase a marquee free agent.
They still have Tim Stutzle, Dylan Cozens, and Linus Ullmark, but this is a reset, not a move by a contender. The longer price is a fair reflection of that.
Bottom Line on Panthers’ Cup Chances
Florida at +800 is a completely different team than the one that watched the playoffs from home. A healthy Barkov, both Tkachuks, and a deep top six make the Panthers a real threat to go on another run. The only box left to check is goaltending.
Personally, I’d want to see who Zito brings in between the pipes before backing Florida at +800. But if the Panthers nail that last piece, don’t be shocked to see the Cats sitting near the top of the 2027 Stanley Cup odds board by training camp.
