In our exclusive interview, the former world champion discusses this weekend’s huge heavyweight showdown and the upcoming fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury later in the year.

How do you see Wardley v Dubois going?

You know what? Dubois is one of my guys. I like the way Dubois fights. He goes head-to-head, don’t give a ****.

When he fights, he goes for the full knockout. Look at what he did to AJ, he went into beast mode and knocked out an Olympic champion who has unified the division twice. He didn’t beat just anybody; he beat one of the kings of the heavyweight division.

Daniel’s one of the sick fighters that comes to war and fights. Now, when I said that he’s going to win this fight, I’ve had my friends, who are also big boxing fans who go to boxing fights together, saying that Fabio Wardley is going to knock out Daniel Dubois, and I disagree because the guy’s got a bit of a chin on him.

It’s a bit confusing to me though, because Fabio Wardley has huge knockout power. He has had some great wins including a former world champion in Joseph Parker.

Do you think Daniel’s going to be a bit nervous going into this fight, or do you think the experience of fighting Oleksandr Usyk and Joshua will actually enable him to win?

I don’t see Dubois freezing on the big stage. He has fought and beat AJ at Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000 and done the same again with Oleksandr Usyk. He lost the fight to Usyk but this is Usyk, he’s the greatest fighter of an era so there is no shame to that.

He shouldn’t really be nervous on this one because the pressure should be on Fabio Wardley to fight with all of the fans there and the pressure that comes with it.

Who should the winner fight next?

It’s hard because you look at the heavyweight division now, it’s all over the place. Oleksandr Usyk, obviously no one’s touching him, right? Then you’ve kind of got Tyson Fury, then AJ, and they will fight later this year.

Look, there’s still fights there. I think a fight like this will be a hard fight for both of them, so they need a little bit of a chill-out fight before going into another big fight. When you have blockbuster fights they take a lot out of you.

Maybe strengthen their profiles by going to the United States and fighting a big name like Deontay Wilder. He is known for what he achieved and would be a great fight and a very winnable fight.

Wilder was world champion and defended it 10 times, and has the profile which can help them move on to other fights with a bigger profile and more commercial value. Even for the loser, if they get an option to fight Wilder then they should do it.

What do you make of the news that Dana White has announced he will promote the fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua?

Listen, Dana White is an incredible promoter – you only have to look at what he has done in the UFC and how huge it has become all around the world.

If it is true and Zuffa is promoting the show then I guess it makes sense as they are working with Turki and Ring Magazine for shows. The thing with Turki is, he wants the biggest shows, and he’s got the biggest fight in Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

For years, the fight couldn’t get made and Turki has finally got it over the line. It is going to be a great spectacle and Turki is close with Dana, so he is probably thinking, how can we make sure this fight gets audiences from across the world?

Dana is a huge name in America and maybe he is hoping that it can attract a big audience from America. Like I said though, Dana is so good and I think he can have a huge impact on boxing and make the sport even better.

You were seen chatting to Anthony Joshua at Tyson Fury’s comeback – how did he seem?

He seemed in good spirits. One thing I have to say with him is, I remember him calling me himself and saying, ‘Bro, whatever happens, you know, we’ll link up again.’

Since then, we’ve done many events together. I just feel like sometimes when two fighters don’t talk for a very long time, I think it’s just nice when we link and just click. We previously had an issue years ago, but he called me instantly to clear things up and I made a mistake.

But he’s a great person and whenever we meet, it’s just good vibes and he’s 100 per cent real, that’s what I love about him.

Who wins the fight?

For a long time, professionally, I used to think Tyson Fury could destroy Anthony Joshua. I even said it last year and I believe he would have. But now, I think out of 10 times, I think AJ takes the fight seven times and maybe by knockout

I said last year Tyson Fury would have battered AJ, but this year, I think AJ boxes, moves and uses all of his skills. My friends think if it goes the distance then Tyson will win on points and if Joshua is to win then he will stop Fury inside the distance.

Joshua has that power and ability to knock Fury out, but I actually think the fight will play out differently and he will use his technique and skills to outwork and outsmart Fury. I haven’t heard anybody else say this, but I believe Joshua will beat Tyson on points.

It’s the biggest fight in Britain and I know what it is like. Me and Kell Brook fought and the fight was years too late, but the fight instantly sold out and the whole country was buzzing for the fight. The build up to Fury v AJ will be insane.
