Today’s nine-game MLB slate offers a wealth of opportunities for home run bettors to find value. From the notoriously thin air of Coors Field to a marquee National League West clash between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers, the schedule is loaded with formidable matchups. Whether I am looking to back established superstars or find hidden value in the lower tiers of the odds board, today’s games provide an excellent canvas for prop betting.
When targeting the long ball, location is just as important as the swing. Today’s action features matchups in two premier venues for home runs: Citizens Bank Park and UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium. Conversely, I want to tread carefully or look for heavily discounted odds in more pitcher-friendly confines tonight. Venues like Cleveland’s Progressive Field and Atlanta’s Truist Park have proven to be much tougher environments for hitters looking to leave the yard.
In this guide, I will provide a comprehensive home run odds breakdown and a power analysis of the top hitters taking the field. I will break down why a ballyhooed slugger in Philadelphia is my priority home run pick tonight. I will also identify a high-upside underdog from the late-night West Coast slate to help maximize the value on your betting card.
Home Run Picks Today
Kyle Schwarber (+155) — Phillies vs Pirates
Kyle Schwarber is my premier home run target on today’s board. The Philadelphia slugger leads all active players on the slate with 30 home runs on the season. He boasts a towering .575 slugging percentage and a massive .323 Isolated Power (ISO). Schwarber’s relentless volume and grinder mentality are perfectly aligned to exploit today’s matchup against Pittsburgh Pirates starter Jared Jones.
Jones has been incredibly susceptible to the long ball, surrendering five home runs over 25.0 innings for a slate-worst 1.80 HR/9 rate. Furthermore, this game is taking place at Citizens Bank Park. The venue currently ranks seventh in the majors in runs per game and averages a healthy 2.64 home runs per contest. Combining the slate’s most prolific home run hitter with its most home-run-prone pitcher makes Schwarber a formidable priority.
Junior Caminero (+210) — Rays @ Royals
Tampa Bay’s Junior Caminero has showcased exceptional raw power and a true underdog mentality this season. He has launched 24 home runs to go alongside a .561 slugging percentage and a .268 ISO. Caminero sits just behind Hunter Goodman for the third-most homers among today’s active batters. His elite ISO metric indicates he is consistently driving the ball for extra bases.
Caminero draws a highly favorable matchup against Kansas City Royals pitcher Stephen Kolek. Kolek appears prominently on my list of home-run-susceptible starters, carrying a 1.38 HR/9 rate after allowing eight round-trippers in 52.0 innings. The matchup takes place at Kauffman Stadium, which ranks eighth in offensive run production and sees 2.23 home runs hit per game.
Colson Montgomery (+270) — White Sox @ Guardians
Looking for value in less obvious spots leads me to Colson Montgomery. The highly-touted White Sox slugger has already belted 21 home runs this year, generating a sturdy .482 slugging percentage and a .261 ISO. Montgomery relies on a disciplined, high-leverage approach at the plate. He will face Cleveland Guardians starter Slade Cecconi, who has historically struggled to keep the ball in the yard.
Cecconi has given up 12 home runs across 90.3 innings, resulting in an elevated 1.20 HR/9 rate. I must note that Progressive Field is a tough environment for power hitters. It ranks 27th in runs per game and allows just 1.79 home runs per contest. However, Montgomery’s sheer volume of power production and Cecconi’s tendency to serve up long balls create an undeniable edge.
Shohei Ohtani (+195) — Dodgers vs Padres
Backing Shohei Ohtani is rarely a bad proposition, and today’s National League West showdown offers excellent supporting data. Ohtani has swatted 18 home runs this season while maintaining a .533 slugging percentage and a .242 ISO. He gets an inviting matchup against San Diego Padres starter Randy Vásquez, who ranks near the top of the slate in home run vulnerability.
Vásquez is allowing 1.44 home runs per nine innings, having surrendered 13 bombs in 81.0 innings. Although UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium ranks 25th in overall runs per game, it yields a solid 2.50 home runs per contest. The ball undeniably carries well here. Ohtani’s elite power profile makes him a constant high-volume threat against a pitcher who routinely gives up hard contact.
Dillon Dingler (+425) — Tigers @ Rangers
Dillon Dingler brings immense upside and a true blue-collar work ethic to the late-night slate in Arlington. The Detroit Tigers slugger has mashed 19 home runs on the year. He backs that volume up with a heavy .530 slugging percentage and a .263 ISO. His target tonight is Texas Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi, who has uncharacteristically struggled with the home run ball.
Eovaldi has coughed up 17 home runs across 100.3 innings, translating to a generous 1.52 HR/9 rate. That is the third-worst mark among starting pitchers today. Globe Life Field ranks 31st in run production but still sees 2.19 home runs per game. Dingler’s high ISO indicates he does not need a bandbox to tap into his power reserves against a vulnerable pitcher.
Matt Olson (+340) — Braves vs Cardinals
Matt Olson brings top-tier pedigree to this list, entering the day with 20 home runs, a .523 slugging percentage, and a .251 ISO. Unlike my other targets, backing Olson against St. Louis Cardinals starter Dustin May is built strictly on the batter’s raw, formidable talent. May has been stingy this season, allowing just seven home runs over 83.7 innings for a 0.75 HR/9 rate.
Additionally, Truist Park is a restrictive venue for power, averaging just 1.93 home runs per game. However, Olson’s ISO and season-long slugging metrics confirm he possesses the sheer strength to conquer difficult, pitch-to-contact matchups. Backing Olson here is a testament to trusting elite power production and an unrelenting work ethic to break through tough pitching.
