  • 22-year-old prospect Ashton Sylve headlines his first MF Pro event against former champion Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz
  • Sylve brings a 13-1 record to the table against Diaz’s 34-9-1 record

In his third outing since signing with Misfits Boxing, Ashton Sylve (13-1) faces his biggest challenge yet against seasoned veteran and former world champion Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz (34-9-1). Sylve, 22, enters the fight over a decade younger than Diaz, who is just 2-8 in his last 10 fights.

Sylve is 2-0 since aligning with Misfits Boxing, which followed a multi-fight run with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions. His MVP tenure abruptly ended after he was on the wrong side of a Knockout of the Year contender in his lone professional loss to Lucas Bahdi in July 2024.

While ‘H2O’ has shown improvement in his two fights since the Bahdi loss, he faces the biggest test of his young career against Diaz, who has gone toe-to-toe with Devin Haney, Regis Prograis, William Zepeda, Tevin Farmer and Gary Russell Jr. in his 44-fight run.

Sylve and Diaz are joined on the card by undefeated prospects Ernesto Mercado, Amir Anderson, J’Hon Ingram and Devin Cushing, along with former three-time world title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos.

Almost every fight of the MF Pro card features a substantial favorite against an older veteran, including the main event. Sylve is a massive 7-1 favorite to pass the biggest test of his career against a struggling fighter in Diaz.

Boxing Picks: Ashton Sylve Method of Victory

Misfits made the right decision by giving Sylve a pair of layups in his first two fights under their banner before putting him up against a known fighter currently drowning in quicksand. Diaz is just 1-5 in his last six and 2-8 in his last 10 fights, albeit mostly against elite competition.

Although he is still just 33, Diaz’s history of engaging in blood-and-guts wars has clearly caught up with him. His punch output has waned significantly over the years, and the Mexican no longer seems to be as confident in his chin as he once was. Diaz has still only been stopped once in his nine professional losses.

While Sylve is nowhere near the level of many guys Diaz has lost to in the last five years, he will be considerably bigger, longer, faster and more powerful in the ring. His footwork and constant angle-cutting make for a nightmare matchup against a slow starter like Diaz, who has fallen into a habit of fighting not to lose.

Sylve still has massive defensive concerns with his age, but Diaz will not be the one to expose them. ‘JoJo’ has not had a knockout win since 2019.

Boxing Picks: Amir Anderson Method of Victory

Amir Anderson might be the best Misfits Boxing prospect competing on Friday night and has a golden opportunity to prove that point against Jonas Sylvain. Anderson is not getting a complete pushover in Sylvain, who enters the fight with a 9-0-1 record, but he is being booked to look good in his eighth professional bout.

While Sylvain is one of the few in the division who can match Anderson’s size, the speed of ‘Cashman’ will be the difference-maker. Anderson is deceptively quick and powerful for a fighter his size, which poses a combination of problems unlike anything Sylvain has faced before.

Sylvain has solid fundamentals — his vision and head movement are on point more often than not, and his footwork has given many opponents trouble. But like any regional fighter, Sylvain operates smoothly while in rhythm and can panic when he is caught off-guard, which happens too often for him to get away with against a predator like Anderson.

Anderson has finished five of his seven fights within three rounds, and the holes in Sylvain’s defense make for another early night. Expect his lethal left hook to the body to mark the beginning of another big highlight for the rising prospect.

Boxing Picks: Ernesto Mercado Method of Victory

Two fights after his statement victory over Jose Pedraza, Ernesto Mercado faces another former title challenger on Friday night. ‘Tito’ will look to improve to 19-0 against 38-year-old Juan Carlos Burgos, who is just 3-6-1 in his last 10 outings.

The 24-year-old Mercado has looked like the next buzzsaw at super lightweight, winning all but one of his 18 professional fights by knockout. All of Mercado’s stoppage victories have come within seven rounds, including his complete domination of Pedraza in January 2025.

Burgos, a 38-year-old veteran who has fought just once in the last three years, appears to be just another victim for the surging prospect. However, despite falling on hard times in the twilight of his career, Burgos has yet to even hit the canvas, much less lose by knockout. The layoff is concerning, but Burgos has gone the distance with Keyshawn Davis, Devin Haney and Andy Cruz since the beginning of his skid in 2018.

Burgos took a large number of damaging shots in his last loss to Cruz, which adds to the concern. Eating any of those punches from Mercado might be the end of the night. But laying -150 on Mercado to win by knockout feels impossible to do against a guy who has seemingly never been close to getting stopped, even at this stage of his career.

Mercado has fight-ending power, but contrary to what his record indicates, he is a patient fighter who will look to set up the finish when he has his opponent hurt. Burgos has yet to give an opponent that opening.

Boxing Picks: J’Hon Ingram Method of Victory

Undefeated prospects J’Hon Ingram and Devin Cushing collide on the Sylve vs. Diaz undercard in what could be the most competitive fight of the night. Ingram and Cushing are both coming off fights that forced them to overcome adversity, and now one of them will lose his “0” in the ring against the other.

Aside from being undefeated, Ingram and Cushing share many similarities in their fighting styles. Both fight with exquisite footwork and distance management, combining them with excellent vision and composure. Ingram, in particular, fights with poise well beyond his years.

Cushing, who is four years older, has a massive experience edge on paper with double the amount of professional fights as Ingram. None of that matters much against the competition he has been facing to this point. What will be a problem for ‘Pretty Boy’ is the Florida native’s substantial height and reach advantage, which he weaponizes in the ring.

However, while Cushing has the physical advantages, Ingram is not only the most talented fighter he will face but also the smartest. Ingram’s patience and elite adaptability allow him to close the distance without many of his opponents even realizing. Once he gets past Cushing’s long guard, Ingram’s angles and shot placement in the pocket are a sight to behold.

So far, Cushing has struggled every time he has faced even a slight increase in competition. Ingram is faster with better fight IQ and defense, and should get his hand raised on the scorecards.
