Who Won? Shaun Deeb & Dan “Jungleman” Cates Get Into It at Hellmuth’s Home Game

Hellmuth’s Home Game presented by Poker Night in America (PNIA) and sponsored by BetRivers is once again airing on CBS Sports on Monday nights.

The nationally televised show, which was filmed at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, is unique in that there is no commentary. Instead, the show is carried by table talk from Phil Hellmuth alongside a cast of fellow pros and friends in an intimate, relaxed cash game setting.

PokerNews watched Episode 29, a continuation from the week before, and compiled a recap of some of the biggest hands and interesting storylines.

Here’s how things stacked up at the start of the episode:

The game was played with $25/$50 blinds with a $50 big blind ante. Here’s a look at some of the biggest hands from the episode.

Entertaining First Hand

In the first hand of the episode, Hellmuth raised to $250 from the cutoff and Jennifer Tilly three-bet to $800 next to act on the button. Action folded back to Hellmuth, and he four-bet to $3,000, leaving himself $2,000 back. Tilly then five-bet all in, and Hellmuth called off to create a $10,225 pot.

Hellmuth tabled the J♠J♣ and was way ahead of the 10♥10♣ of Tilly. The duo agreed to run it twice, and right away Tilly took the lead on the 4♥10♠Q♣ first flop. The 5♠ turn and 9♥ river gave Tilly half the pot, but with only one ten remaining in the deck, she’d have to get really lucky to scoop.

Much to the table’s amusement, the case ten appeared on the 10♦J♦A♣ flop, but it also contained a jack to keep Hellmuth in the lead. The K♣ turn meant a chop on the second runout was inevitable, and Hellmuth got a little rebate.

Tilly the Pussy Cat

Phil Hellmuth raised to $300 with the K♥J♠ in the cutoff, and Jennifer Tilly looked down at the 4♦3♦ on the button.

“I’m just gonna call, like a p***y,” Tilly said before doing just that. Erick Lindgren was the only other player to call with the A♣2♣, making it three-way action to a flop of 3♣6♦3♥. Lindgren checked, Hellmuth took a stab at it for $600, and Tilly just called with trips.

Lindgren folded, the 2♦ appeared on the turn, and Hellmuth bluffed again, this time $1,400. Tilly, who picked up a straight flush draw, just called, and then bet a modest $1,200 after Hellmuth checked the 6♠ river.

Hellmuth seemed suspicious and called with king high after saying, “I guess you deserve it.”

Just like that, Tilly took down a $7,475 pot.

Running It Once

Action folded to Shaun Deeb in the cutoff, and he raised to $200 with the 10♥10♣. Phil Hellmuth then moved all in for $2,350 from the small blind with the A♣Q♥, Tilly folded from the big blind, and Deeb called, saying he only wanted to run it once.

The Q♠A♦7♠ flop was gin for Hellmuth, who took the lead with two pair. Neither the 2♣ turn nor Q♣ river helped Deeb, and he watched Hellmuth double to $4,800.

Diamonds are Tilly’s Best Friend

Action folded to Dan Cates on the button, and he raised to $250 with the 7♥5♦. Tilly was in the straddle with the J♦6♦ and defended to see a flop of 2♦K♠8♠, which both players checked.

The 3♦ turn gave Tilly a flush draw, and she bet $400, which Cates raised to $1,500. Tilly called and then checked in the dark before the 9♦ river, which gave her a flush. Fortunately for her, Cates took the bait and bet $3,850. Tilly woke up with a check-raise to $10,000, and Cates, who had seven high, had to give $17,475 pot.

Monster Pot in Final Hand

In the final hand of the episode, Nick Hellmuth called from the hijack with the K♠10♠ and Deeb did the same from the button holding the A♣7♦. Cates then looked down at the K♥K♦ in the small blind and raised to $600, which prompted Hellmuth to fold.

Deeb then three-bet to $2,300, Cates four-bet to $4,000, and Deeb called to see a flop of Q♦7♠4♥. Both players checked, the 10♦ appeared on the turn, and Cates bet $5,000 into the $8,300 pot. Deeb called with his pair of sevens and then watched Cates move all in for $14,025 after the Q♥ paired the board on the river.

Deeb didn’t take too long to call, only to see the $46,350 pot pushed to his opponent.
