- Two plus-money underdogs headline our Brickyard 400 betting card.
- Our best NASCAR picks and predictions for Sunday’s 160-lap race.
- Read below for expert NASCAR Brickyard 400 predictions and best bets for Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one of the most famous racing facilities in the world, largely because it has spent more than a century convincing otherwise reasonable adults to drive into Turn 1 without lifting.
The Brickyard rewards track position, straight-line speed and disciplined pit execution. It also has a habit of producing strategy calls that look brilliant for 30 laps before a caution sends everyone involved directly into witness protection.
We are targeting four driver matchups for Sunday’s 160-lap race. The betting card includes one near-even matchup, one modest favorite and two plus-money underdogs. Each selection incorporates two finishing models, the proprietary SS2 practice metric and eight recent races from Indianapolis and its comparable-track group.
The Brickyard 400 begins Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET on TNT.

Expert NASCAR Brickyard 400 Predictions & Best Bets
Chris Buescher over Erik Jones (-115 at bet365)
Both projection models favor Buescher in a matchup that bet365 prices as a coin flip.
One model projects Buescher to finish 13.16 compared to Jones at 16.16. The other creates a much larger gap, placing Buescher at 8.54 and Jones at 17.46. The first model gives Buescher a 55.97% chance of winning the matchup, slightly above the 53.49% break-even probability required by the -115 odds.
The raw comparable-track metrics are closer. Buescher owns the slightly better average running position, 13.28 compared to 13.78, and averages 1.88 laps led compared to Jones at 0.50. Jones holds advantages in quality passes and percentage of laps completed inside the top 15.
Practice helps break the tie.
Buescher ranked sixth in the SS2 practice metric, while Jones finished 14th. Buescher also starts 15th, only one position behind Jones. He does not need to overcome a meaningful track-position disadvantage at a circuit where passing can otherwise require a permission slip signed by Roger Penske.
The comparable box scores have been uneven, but Buescher produced finishes of second at Michigan, fourth at Pocono and ninth at Gateway in the 2025 sample. He added seventh at Pocono and ninth at Michigan this season.
At an essentially even price, we will take the driver favored by both models with the stronger practice performance.
Ryan Blaney over Tyler Reddick (+180, Fanatics)
This is the most aggressive play on the card, but the price creates an attractive opportunity.
The models disagree. One projects Blaney to finish 9.04 and Reddick at 12.16, giving Blaney a 56.21% matchup probability. The other places Reddick at 3.81 and Blaney at 11.38.
Fanatics requires Blaney to win only 35.71% of the time. Even with the disagreement, +180 leaves considerable room for error.
Blaney also owns several advantages across the raw comparable-track metrics. His average running position is 11.91 compared to Reddick’s 13.48. He averages 27.13 laps led across the sample, more than double Reddick’s 13.25. Their SS2 practice rankings were nearly identical, with Blaney 12th and Reddick 13th.
The box scores strengthen the Blaney argument. He won at Nashville and led 139 laps there last season, then finished third at Pocono, seventh at Indianapolis and fourth at Gateway. Reddick finished ninth, 32nd, 29th and 16th in those same four races.
Blaney also finished ahead of Reddick at Michigan this season. Reddick recovered with second-place finishes at Pocono and a sixth at Nashville, explaining why the second model remains bullish.
Reddick starts third compared to Blaney in 13th, but this wager only cares where they finish. Blaney has already demonstrated that he can move forward at Indianapolis, climbing from 24th to seventh and winning Stage 2 last year.
We are not claiming Blaney should be a massive favorite. We are claiming +180 is too large for a driver with comparable practice speed and an excellent record within this track group. If Reddick leads all afternoon, we will compliment his speed while quietly removing Fanatics from the home screen.
Josh Berry over Michael McDowell (+250, Fanatics)
Berry is the longshot of the group. Both models favor McDowell, and the practice metric does too.
That is normally where we close the sportsbook and find something else to do. The +250 price keeps the conversation alive.
Berry needs to win this matchup only 28.57% of the time. The matchup tool estimates his probability at 38.06%, creating 9.48% of theoretical value. His average projected finishes are 28.85 and 23.43, while McDowell checks in at 22.76 and 14.08.
The raw comparable-track metrics are much closer than those projections suggest. Berry’s average running position is 21.58, nearly identical to McDowell’s 21.29. Berry averages 2.13 fastest laps compared to McDowell’s 0.50, while neither driver has led a lap across the eight-race sample. McDowell carries modest advantages in top-15 percentage and quality passes.
Berry also beat McDowell in several relevant box scores. He finished 12th at both Michigan and Pocono in 2025, while McDowell placed 30th and 35th. Berry again beat him 15th to 26th at Michigan this season.
Most importantly, Berry finished 22nd in last year’s Brickyard 400 while McDowell placed 30th. Neither driver was summoned to kiss the bricks, but Berry won the matchup by eight spots.
McDowell starts sixth and Berry 26th, while the SS2 practice metric ranked them 18th and 35th. This is not the comfortable selection. We are betting that McDowell’s qualifying position overstates his 400-mile race strength and that +250 substantially overstates the difference between them.
Berry does not need to become a contender. He only needs to survive long enough for Indianapolis to begin doing Indianapolis things.
Ty Gibbs over Carson Hocevar (-130 at theScore Bet)
Hocevar starts from the pole, but both finishing models expect Gibbs to beat him.
One model projects Gibbs at 10.02 and Hocevar at 13.55. The other places Gibbs at 5.50 compared to Hocevar at 8.27. The first model assigns Gibbs a 57.01% matchup probability, slightly above the 56.52% break-even point at -130.
The raw comparable-track numbers favor Hocevar in several areas. He owns the better average running position, leads more laps and completes a greater percentage of the sample inside the top 15. Gibbs, however, produced the stronger practice performance and brings the organizational strength of Joe Gibbs Racing.
Gibbs ranked third in the SS2 practice metric, while Hocevar finished ninth. Gibbs then qualified fourth, only three positions behind Hocevar. The starting-position gap is not large enough to outweigh two favorable model projections and a six-position practice advantage.
Their comparable box scores have swung in both directions. Hocevar finished second at Nashville and 10th at Indianapolis last season, but Gibbs beat him at Michigan, Pocono and Gateway. Gibbs also finished ninth at Pocono this season, 11 positions ahead of Hocevar.
Hocevar’s pole is impressive, but qualifying first does not guarantee that he will remain there for 400 miles. Gibbs starts only three spots back and showed the stronger sustained speed in practice. If Hocevar slips backward after the opening run or first pit sequence, Gibbs should be close enough to capitalize.
Starting first means Hocevar has defeated everyone through Saturday. Unfortunately for him, NASCAR remains stubbornly committed to holding the actual race.
